PARENTING AGREEMENTS & SCHEDULES

5/11/2017

There has been an evolving trend to focus on parenting schedules as opposed to placing a label on who has custody of the children. Child support is determined by the amount of time each parent has with the child not necessarily by the custodial label. The table amount of child support may be adjusted for parents who spend at least 40% of the time with the child.

Some common parenting schedules include:
  • The child resides with one parent for a fixed number of days each week and with the other parent for the remainder of the week.
  • The child resides an equal amount of time with each parent through weekday rotations.
  • The child resides primarily with one parent and is with the other parent on alternate weekends.
  • The child resides primarily with one parent and is with the other parent on alternate weekends, and specified days during the week in the evenings or overnight.
  • The child resides with one parent one week and the other parent the alternate week.
  • Exceptions to the regular schedule are made for holidays and special occasions.
